We know quite a few Potterheads are finding a fantastic escape from reality in Hogwarts Legacy, a game that lets them experience the wonders and magic of the Wizarding World in a way the books and films can’t quite deliver, but it’s still a world that revolves around money. So, it’s not quite that detached from real life – especially when you consider the fact the game is forever tainted by the exclusionary langauge and views of the Harry Potter series creator J. K. Rowling. However, if you’re still playing and you’re someone who can’t help but always need a few more galleons in their pocket, frugal fans have discovered a ‘clucking-good’ way for you to scrounge up some more gold while you’re out and about in the Scottish Highlands.
We are, of course, talking about the game’s chickens. While you can’t quite catch these particular creatures with your Nab Sack, of which you can sell to Ellie Peck at Brood and Peck in Hogsmeade, you can use your Transformation spell to turn them into little pouches of gold – which you can then loot to fill up your own pockets.
Alright, okay. We know this isn’t quite the most noble way of earning a few extra galleons on the fly, but it’s quite an effective way of doing it if you don’t mind depriving the people of Hogwarts Valley and beyond of both chickens and the eggs they produce.
As you can see below in this short gameplay clip from Hogwarts Legacy player ‘BigPlayG757‘, all you need to do is cast the Transformation spell – which makes use of the Transfiguration magic you might see Professor Minerva McGonnagal teaching in Warner Bros. film series – on a chicken and it will turn into a number of in-game items. Of these, there’s a chance it will turn into a gold pouch. All you need to do is pick this up and you’re quids-in, so to speak.
Just found out you can turn chickens into gold! from HarryPotterGame
In a similar fashion to the loot you find after a battle with Dark Wizards, these bags of gold are only going to be worth a small amount each – the one in the clip above is only worth 15, for example. However, this is a great tactic if you just need a few more coins before you can buy what you’re after.
Hogwarts Legacy really drops the quaffle when it comes to mini games, but minor things like this do make us wonder what else is possible in this Wizarding World RPG. We can only hope there’s more for players to explore, as DLC and post-launch content has been seemingly ruled out by the developers.
And, while you’re here, why not read up on why Hogwarts Legacy fans are disappointed you can’t be hit by a train – and how Hogwarts Legacy’s developers make the game’s innocent cats fight back. We know Hogwarts Legacy mods hint that the RPG had bigger plans for companions, but we’re not sure there are any major changes coming to Hogwarts Legacy anytime soon. So, you may as well take advantage of these strange money-making tactics while you can.
Hogwarts Legacy has drawn considerable criticism during its development, largely due to the fact that the creator of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling, has made a number of transphobic remarks on social media in recent years.
While Avalanche has confirmed that J.K. Rowling is not “directly involved” in the development of Hogwarts Legacy, it is working with “her team” and Portkey Games, a Warner Bros. label dedicated to launching new experiences inspired by J.K. Rowling’s original stories. It is currently unclear whether she will earn any royalties from the game’s sale, but it is likely given it is based on her original body of work.
