Happy New Year from The Loadout

Goodbye 2019, hello 2020.

Overwatch Soldier 76

There’s a lot we could say about 2019, but in a nutshell, it’s been an incredible year for us. It was the year that the first seeds for this wonderfully green site were planted and the same year that we finally pulled back the curtain to reveal it to you lovely lot.

As many of you know, we launched The Loadout in October after months of deliberating, designing, and despairing over code. Since then, we’ve published over 400 news articles and features, hosted the wonderful words of many talented freelancers, and attracted tens of thousands of readers week in, week out.

From investigating the current state of PUBG esports to exploring Team Vitality’s thoughts on the future of Rocket League we’re determined to tell the real stories of the esports industry and how it came to be.

Organisations are hiring sports professionals or physiotherapists, like Terry Martin, to get their athletes in top shape, and streamers are starting to sign contracts to fit their personal lifestyles. Games like Rainbow Six Siege now have their history tied to esports and others, like Farming Simulator, are just getting started.

All these stories indicate that the industry as a whole is growing up, and while we still have a way to go, we’ll be there every step of the way to cover the news.

I’m proud of the work we’ve put in so far and I hope you are too. So from the whole team here at The Loadout, happy new year. We can’t wait to get back to work and deliver you the very best gaming and esports news in 2020.
