Godfall is releasing on the PS4 nine months after releasing on PS5

Godfall launches on last-gen hardware later this year

Gearbox’s Godfall was one of the next-gen-ready titles to launch with the PS5 last year, but with accessibility to the new Sony console still tricky due to high demand, the “looter-slasher” is now being released on last-gen hardware too.

On August 10, Godfall is releasing on the PS4, which makes it a member of the extremely exclusive club of games to hit the newer generation of consoles first and launch on older generation consoles later. It will have full cross-generation matchmaking with PS5 players, and if you buy the PS4 version, you will also be able to get a free upgrade to the PS5 version when you need it.

The PS4 launch will come as part of its huge Fire and Darkness expansion, which includes loads of new content through the Lightbringer update and matchmaking for its co-op events. Loads of new cosmetic items, as well as brand new loot type, are billed for Lightbringer.

The announcement comes on a day chocked full of gaming news from Gearbox, including the release date for a brand new title called Tribes of Midgard.
