Fortnite channels Cyberpunk 2077 for Chapter 4 Season 2 theme

The Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 update is almost here and we now know the theme of the battle royale shooter's next update thanks to a Twitter hashtag.

Epic Games’ next major Fortnite update is almost here and a Twitter hashtag, of all places, seems to be where the revelation of the next season’s theme has come from. Ahead of the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 release date, the hashtag “FortniteMEGA” has been spotted online by known Fortnite leaker ‘HYPEX‘ – who assumes that this is the name of the next Fortnite season. This hashtage has also been spotted with an emoji-like logo icon depicting flourescently-lit Japanese characters. While this might not seem like it tells us much about the next Fortnite update, at a glance, it actually reveals quite a lot about what is coming to this battle royale.

What do we mean by this? Well, our first thought is that Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 is going to adopt a cyberpunk aesthetic. Not only do typical cyberpunk settings regularly feature the economic and technological dominance of Japan in a near-future world, they also often feature some sort of towering metropolis where alleyways shrouded in darkness by huge skyscrapers are lit by bright neon lights and an over-abundance of technology.

It might seem like an obvious one to name, but Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City really is a great example of this – alongside the world presented in Blade Runner and the world we’re met with in Detroit Become Human.

So, not only does the hashtag – which you can see for yourself below – feature a logo icon that could be considered cyberpunk, it also reveals that the season is most-likely called Fortnite Mega; this could be a nod to some sort of megalopolis appearing on Fortnite Island, which is a fancy word for a supercity.

Fortnite leaker ‘ShiinaBR‘ has also doubled down on a leak that suggests a new neo-Tokyo POI and “new, futuristic motorcycles” are coming to Fortnite Island in Chapter 4 Season 2. These both reinforce the idea that the next Fortnite season’s theme is going to be more cyberpunk than not. It has also been uncovered that the hashtag “GoToMEGA” shares the same logo icon when posted – which does seem to suggest that “MEGA” is referring to a location. You know, like a megalopolis.

If that isn’t convincing enough, then all you need to do is check out these teasers shared recently by ‘HYPEX‘. We’re not sure exactly what the characters say, but there are some Fortnite fans out there that seem to think it translates to terms like “busy street” and “downtown”. However, we are yet to verify this.

This isn’t the only interesting tidbit of information available about Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, though. Recent Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 leaks are claiming a fan-favourite POI is returning – and there’s a new Fortnite Resident Evil crossover leak to talk about. If you were worried that one of the best battle royale games out there was running out of steam, you don’t need to be.

Oh, while you’re here, it’s worth checking out the new Adonis Creed Fortnite skin; if you’re a fan of the movies, it’s surely a must-buy cosmetic.

But, back to the topic at hand. As much as we want to tell you more about the future of Fortnite, that’s really all the information out there right now. It still looks like the Fortnite first-person mode is set to debut in the next update, though. Even if you’re not a huge fan of the futuristic cyberpunk-fuelled aesthetic we might be in for in Chapter 4 Season 2, there’s that.
