Fortnite Festival Season 4 Fuels us with metal maestros Metallica

The Fortnite Festival Season 4 headliner has been revealed for PS5 and Xbox - Enter, Sandman! Wait, no, it's Metallica that's coming to Harmonix's rhythm game.

Fortnite Festival Season 4 Metallica: James Hetfield next to a colorful rooster wearing a red bandana

Epic Games has revealed the headline act for Fortnite Festival Season 4, and it’s a scorcher. Taking to the stage are none other than heavy metal legends Metallica, bringing James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich, and Robert Trujillo to Fortnite’s musical mode on PS5 and Xbox. Oh, and Fortnite Festival PvP is a thing now – or at least when it goes live. Season 4 is set to kick off on Thursday, June 13, and will play out until 9pm PT / 12am ET on Friday, August 16, and 5am BST on Saturday, August 17.

As is tradition, the Premium Reward track required to snag the quartet will set you back 1,800 V-Bucks, and will immediately unlock the Ulrich outfit. By the looks of things, Metallica’s drummer will be followed by bassist Trujillo, lead guitarist Hammett, and frontman Hetfield. Let the shred- I mean grind, begin. You can also get your mitts on Hammett’s Gibson “Greeny” Les Paul alongside Ulrich’s TAMA drum kit to complete the look in the multiplayer game. As for the season’s premium Jam Track, there can only be One option – I’m very unfunny.

If Nothing Else Matters financially and you’re looking to go all-in on the collab, then there’s plenty of drip to go around in the shop. The “Puppet Master” outfits certainly seem to be putting the ‘metal’ in Metallica, with fearsome glowing skull chest plates featuring prominently for each member.

You can also purchase the following Jam Tracks:

  • Enter Sandman
  • Fuel
  • Master of Puppets
  • Ride the Lightning
  • The Unforgiven
  • Wherever I May Roam

But don’t worry if you don’t want to stump up the big V-Bucks for Metallica – there’s Justice for All in Season 4 as the free reward track will offer up a Slurp Blaster Guitar, Dark Flame Aura, and Roundhouse Emote to kit yourself out with. You can also jam out to three new tracks: Dreamer, S.O.M.P, and The Night Porter (Winnage).

If you’re missing the Guitar Hero battles of old, then Harmonix is cooking up something devilish – the 16-player Battle Stage. Effectively, you and your opponents will all play the same track, with four players getting knocked out each round. You can attack foes the same way you’d activate Overdrive, knocking them off course while upping your own score. As Dave Grohl says in the Tenacious D movie, “let the rock off begin.”
