The FIFA 23 release date is here and there’s a lot to dig into to when you take into account some of the exciting transfers we’ve seen between the 21/22 and 22/23 season. If you’re looking forward to play with your friends, no matter the platform, we have everything you need to know about FIFA 23 crossplay below.
And the good news is that FIFA 23 crossplay is possible, albeit in a slightly limited way. Like previous entries, there are some caveats for players looking to play with friends on another platform.
So if you’re looking to bring the FIFA’s 2022 World Cup trophy home with a friend, here’s everything we know about the crossplay features coming to EA Sport’s FIFA game, including the restrictions put on matchmaking and multiplayer.
FIFA 23 crossplay
So… does FIFA 23 going to have crossplay features? Yes, FIFA 23 has crossplay and cross-platform play between multiple platforms for the first time in the franchise. However, there are some limitations.
While players on new-gen (PS5, Xbox Series, PC) can play with each other and those on old-gen (PS4 and Xbox One) can matchmake together, this will only be available in 1v1 modes. This means you’ll be able to match against players on different platforms in FIFA Ultimate Team, Online Seasons, Online Friendlies, and more. You won’t, however, be able to play co-op Division Rivals cross-platform, nor will you be able to play Pro Clubs.
EA says things might change at a later date. When that’ll be, though, is anyone’s guess.
Is FIFA 23 Pro Clubs cross platform?
FIFA 23 does not currently allow for crossplay in Pro Clubs. However, following the backlash pre-launch, EA Esports says it is working on bringing the feature to the mode at a later date.
“While we’re excited with the first steps to bring new cross-play features to FIFA 23, we also recognize what cross-play functionality could mean to the Pro Clubs mode with the potential for improving matchmaking and allowing friends from different platforms of the same generation to play together,” the statement says.
“With the scale of such an important feature, our goal is to bring you the best possible experiences. As we look at our cross-play future, we’re focused on matchmaking in Pro Clubs, VOLTA, and FUT Co-op, as well as cross-platform lobby invites and ultimately cross-platform Pro Clubs.”
However, we still don’t know when crossplay will be made available in Pro Clubs. We’ll update this guide if and when we get more information.
