We’re hurtling ever closer to the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree launch date, heralding the exquisite RPG’s first and only major content update. To ensure that we’re entering the Land of Shadow looking our best, FromSoftware is dropping a pre-launch Elden Ring update featuring new hairstyles on PS5 and Xbox. Additionally, the studio is offering up some quaint quality-of-life additions, alongside an unconfirmed number of bug fixes and balance tweaks. A three-hour server maintenance to apply the patch will take place at 12am PT / 3am ET / 8am BST on Thursday, June 20.
The new update to one of the best games ever brings with it five fresh trims that you can give your character. Alongside a long hair preset, FromSoft is finally adding dreadlocks to the game, as well as what I can only describe as ‘The Yuta Okkotsu’ – where are my Jujutsu Kaisen readers at?
Elsewhere, the studio is adding a new ‘recent items’ tab to the inventory, which allows you to quickly check out your latest loot. On top of that, all newly obtained items will be marked with a ‘!’ – I can’t lie, a simple golden dot would’ve done the trick, but who am I to judge the legendary RPG game makers?
The Summoning Pool is also getting a couple of welcomed QoL updates. Now, active pools will be carried over to New Game+, meaning you won’t have to run around relocating them – result. Additionally, you can now enable and disable individual pools you can be summoned to with a Small Golden Effigy active. This is super nice if there are specific bosses or areas you don’t want to be thrown into.

Though FromSoft hasn’t revealed what sorts of balance changes and bug fixes will arrive with the patch, it’s already a fantastic enough update in and of itself. To keep in the loop with all things Elden Ring as we head into Shadow of the Erdtree and beyond, be sure to follow our Google News feed.
