Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree release date is a hot topic as players look to have a reason to jump back into The Lands Between and continue exploring.
Elden Ring quickly cemented itself as one of the best PS5 games and best Xbox Series X games after release, though if you’re yet to play and don’t know what the fuss is, then find out more in our Elden Ring review and why it got the first ever ten score from The Loadout. Furthermore, Elden Ring was also one of The Loadout’s Game of the Year 2022 nominees. It’s safe to say we’re excited to see how the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion builds upon the already stellar experience of the base game.
Elden Ring DLC release date speculation
The Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC release date is expected to be in late 2023 or early 2024. FromSoftware has yet to confirm a launch date after the official announcement, and it is likely a while away with development only starting in late 2022.
In the announcement post, FromSoftware confirmed that an Elden Ring DLC is currently in development. Titled Shadow of the Erdtree, it’s likely this expansion will tell us more about the Erdtree and its history, though little was given of the story besides a piece of key art. However, there is definitely more to learn about the mysterious tree after the end of the game, especially depending on which one of the Elden Ring endings you chose.
Elden Ring DLC story speculation
The Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree story will likely focus on the history of the Erdtree, whether taking us back in time or after a canonically ending. In typical FromSoftware style, the lore and story will probably be very cryptic, spread between cutscenes and environmental storytelling. Nevertheless, fans of Elden Ring will be pleased to be able to learn more about the mysterious Erdtree.

Elden Ring DLC gameplay speculation
The Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will include new gameplay features, but we don’t know the exact details yet. But, it’s likely to include new weapons, new enemies, and new areas. If so, this will be an exciting new expansion to the game, especially for those who love using every weapon and completing all there is to do in the game.
Perhaps most importantly depending on who you ask, there will undoubtedly be more terrifying and challenging bosses to conquer. Given the gargantuan bosses are largely the central point of the gameplay experience, it’s hard to imagine there won’t be at least a few new bosses and mini-boss enemies to defeat in Shadow of the Erdtree.
If the expansion does indeed take place after the ending on the main game, then it’s possible we’ll also be able to dive back in with our existing characters and builds. Having challenged and bested the Elden Ring boss order and Elden Ring Walking Mausoleum locations, it could be a great opportunity to build our characters even further, or even start fresh for a brand-new challenge.
While it’s a shame we don’t have the Elden Ring DLC release date yet, it’s definitely cause for celebration that fans can venture back into the Lands Between for a brand new adventure when Shadow of the Erdtree releases.
