Elden Ring director says FromSoftware’s next game is almost done

Despite Miyazaki moving onto direct a new game, FromSoftware's next project is almost finished. But, what the studio release next?

Elden Ring Developer Next Game Finished: Malenia can be seen holding out her blade

Despite only releasing the game four months ago, Elden Ring developer FromSoftware’s next game is almost done and in the final stages of development

In a new interview with 4Gamer, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of the RPG, says that the studio has an unannounced project that is in the “final stages” of development. But, as with most directors who are sworn to secrecy, he stops short of giving us any hints as to what the project is.

However, the studio’s next game could be Armored Core 6, which was seemingly leaked earlier this year when screenshots for the game from a consumer survey suddenly appeared online. However, the studio has worked on smaller projects like the VR title Deracine, so it might not be their next blockbuster that is close to releasing. But, given that development is in its final stages it’s unlikely this game is directed by Miyazaki.

In fact, Miyazaki has already moved on to working on the next game he is directing. While he didn’t offer up any details on what that project is, he did say in the interview that he is interested in working on “more abstract fantasy” compared to what FromSoftware has previously made, which could suggest that we will see bigger departures in style and gameplay from the studio if Armored Core 6 is set to follow Elden Ring.

Speaking of Elden Ring, Miyazaki also says that the support and patches for Elden Ring won’t stop even though he has moved on to directing another project. However, he stops short of saying whether those updates will be in the form of new DLC or simple bug fixes pushed into the game.

Either way, FromSoftware doesn’t appear to be slowing despite Elden Ring’s success, so if Armored Core 6 is on the horizon we could expect to hear more before the year ends.
