Following Anathan ‘ana’ Pham’s announcement that he would be retiring from competitive Dota 2, OG has already brought in a familiar face in his stead. Sumail ‘SumaiL’ Hassan will be rejoining the team as its position 1 carry.
SumaiL originally joined the back-to-back International-winning side in January last year, replacing ana who at the time had taken a break from competing. However, the player’s first stint with the organisation was brief, which was widely-attributed to issues playing with the EU-based team from the United States.
However, with travel restrictions beginning to ease as vaccination efforts continue globally, the logistical stars appear to have aligned, with it looking likely that SumaiL will finally be able to join up with OG’s roster in person.
The youngest player to ever win The International back in 2015, SumaiL has historically had his admirers. Among them is OG CEO JMR Luna, who says that “Sumail has always been one of my favourite teammates and players.”
In pure OG fashion, our road to qualify to TI this year is not the smoothest.
A king’s help will be more than welcomed.@SumaaaaiL has accepted to once again hop on our train and give us a royal hand.

The move also marks the first time that SumaiL has truly had a permanent spot since his time on Evil Geniuses. Aside from his original time on OG, the player has only started for brief spells on Quincy Crew and the now-defunct Just Error. SumaiL also served as a stand-in for Team Liquid between April and June this year.
