Destiny 2’s Spire of the Watcher dungeon is a great addition to the stellar Season of the Seraph, and lets Guardians live out their cowboy/electrician fantasies on Mars. While not the toughest dungeon in Destiny 2 history, there is a rather tricky and frustrating boss encounter midway through, but it now seems there’s a very quick (and hilarious) way to defeat it, and it’s peak Destiny cheese.
After navigating your way through the opening sections of the activity, you’ll find yourself atop the Spire of the Watcher taking on a massive harpy known as Akelous, the Siren’s Current. To legitimately defeat Akelous, most players will probably need a few damage phases (even with some of the best Destiny 2 weapons equipped), which can be initiated by shooting the connectors on each of the Spire’s prongs. But why waste all that time when you could simply yeet it out of Mars’ stratosphere?
Either by accident or design, a Destiny 2 player has shared a clip of their fireteam rapidly defeating Akelous with a glitch caused by performing a finisher move. The clip, shared by Reddit user ‘zthart’, shows the boss preparing to take its position for one of the damage phases. However, as it nears the players, one of them performs a finisher move on a minotaur, and the acrobatic animation collides with Akelous.
The result? The boss gets yeeted off into the distance and then despawns after seemingly reaching the edge of the playable area. Its health bar disappears, and the encounter is cleared, with players receiving their loot for doing so. You can check out the clip here.
This finisher move glitch has been known to down teammates or enemy Guardians that get in its way for a while now, but we can’t recall it ever being used to catapult a boss.
While players have been perfecting their strategies for grinding the dungeon and testing themselves with solo-flawless challenges, it seems that a humble finisher move could be one of the most useful tools in your arsenal. Admittedly, this is probably quite tricky to replicate.
