Whether you’re enjoying exploring Neomuna and experiencing the Destiny 2 Lightfall story content on offer or not, it’s hard to deny that Bungie has made quite a few positive changes to this looter shooter with the latest expansion. From the reformed Guardian Ranks system to the new set of Strand mechanics and abilities, there’s so much to look forward to beyond your struggle against The Witness. However, Guardians are already exploiting one of this looter shooter’s new mechanics – and it’s proving nothing is sacred. We are, of course, talking about the Destiny 2 commendation farm exploit.

If you’re wondering what we’re talking about, this short video from the rather aptly named ‘Cheese Forever’ explains it well – and you can watch it for yourself below.

What this Destiny 2 commendations exploit boils down to is essentially a method of accessing the commendation screen at the end of a game – whether that is a Strike, a game of Gambit, or a Raid – quickly and repeatedly. This, when you coordinate with a group of Guardians, can allow you to quickly give and receive commendations – a social feature that Bungie has introduced to combat in-game toxicity and give players a chance to “reward” one another.

However, as you can see explained below, these commendations also play a part in boosting your Guardian Rank – a seasonal reward system that has been revamped somewhat in the Lightfall update and Season of Defiance – and any related Triumphs that need you to earn commendations and boost your commendation score – which are challenges that can be used to increase your Triumph score and earn some pretty decent in-game rewards.

Importantly, for Destiny 2 Lightfall players looking to take full advantage of the exploit, this Destiny 2 commendation farm tactic can be used to unlock some decent gear at the higher Guardian Ranks for the current season. To complete the first stage of this, you need to boost your commendation score to 750; so, the exploit itself will certainly help fast-track you through that particular challenge. The Guardian Rank 8 iteration of this challenge will see this rise to 1250 – according to this Reddit post from ‘Thizgo’.

If you’re wondering how you actually take advantage of this exploit, all you need to do is jump into Destiny 2 with a group of your friends and jump into the Last Wish raid. From here, all you need to do is go to the Wish Wall and enter the Petra’s Run wish. Then, all you need to do is have someone die – and you’ll be sent to Orbit and able to commend one another. There’s even a macro you can use if you’re looking to take advantage of this exploit as effortlessly as possible.

As you might have heard, and may already expect, ‘Cheese Forever’ is convinced that there are some Powerful and Pinnacle gear rewards up for grabs when you ascend to the top of the Guardian Ranks progression system. So, although you will have to do quite a few other in-game activities, this commendation farming will certainly help with that.
