They are two of the biggest names in competitive CS:GO and with just a handful of a tournaments remaining in 2019 Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut and Oleksandr ‘S1mple’ Kostyliev find themselves locked in a battle to be crowned the highest rated player of the year.
According to player rating stats from HLTV, Team Vitality’s ZywOo and Natus Vincere’s S1mple are currently neck and neck when it comes to their performances at ‘big events’, with both achieving a rating of 1.29. The two CS:GO masters top the leaderboard despite their respective teams only winning one big event each in 2019.
The Frenchman and the Ukranian can be separated by other stats, however. For example, S1mple has a superior K/D – 1.39 to ZywOo’s 1.34 – but ZywOo has played 28 maps more at big events than S1mple this calendar year, so has managed to achieve his rating over a longer period of in-game time.
Vitality and NaVi could face each other at EPICENTRE 2019 in mid-December in what could be a deciding fixture in the quest to be crowned the best CS:GO player of the year.
Close behind S1mple and ZywOo is Astralis’ AWPer Nicolai ‘Dev1ce’ Reedtz with a rating of 1.25, Team Liquid’s Jonathan ‘EliGe’ Jablonowski on 1.22 and S1mple’s NaVi teammate Denis ‘Electronic’ Sharipov who has a rating of 1.21.
It’s not very likely that anyone will be able to topple either of ZywOo or S1mple in the few weeks that remain of the 2019 CS:GO season, so we will be watching closely to see if either of these star players can break their current deadlock.
