Even though new Assassin’s Creed games like Valhalla and Odyssey are enormous, sprawling epics, you just can’t beat the classics, can you? Games like Assassin’s Creed 2 are still revered by fans to this day, and there’s even been a renaissance of appreciation for titles such as Assassin’s Creed Unity over the years. Now, Ubisoft is set to develop a brand-new wave of Assassin’s Creed remakes for PS5 and Xbox owners.
In a recent interview with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, he delves into the future of the beloved RPG game franchise, beyond upcoming entries like Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Before the new PS5 game and new Xbox game arrives later this year, Guillemot expresses on Ubisoft’s official blog that players can begin to get excited “about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them.” Furthermore, the Ubisoft CEO adds that “there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.”
However, rumors of Assassin’s Creed remakes aren’t exactly new, especially after it was purported that the first game would be getting some current-gen polish back in 2021. While this has yet to come to fruition, I’m wondering exactly what shape these remakes will inhabit.
Some of the best games in the franchise have already received some polish on PS5 and Xbox One consoles, as releases like the Ezio Collection have given players access to refined versions of games like Assassin’s Creed 2 and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood.
I’d love to see an Assassin’s Creed Unity remake, considering how wicked its multiplayer game components were, as well as its suite of customization that later entries have either scaled back or abandoned completely. It may have been a buggy mess at launch all those years ago, but beyond that, Unity is easily one of the best Assassin’s Creed games around.
Until Ubisoft confirms exactly which games are getting remake treatment, we do have Assassin’s Creed Shadows to look forward to in the near future, which seems to be leaning on the Splinter Cell games for its stealth features. Now that sounds like a dub to me.
In other gaming news, we’ve had our hands on The First Descendant already (it’s giving Anthem vibes), and Valorant’s console port is way better than any of you probably imagined.
