Apex Legends PS5 DualSense capabilities a “core feature” for next-gen

Respawn suggests that the PS5 DualSense controllers features, such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, will be in the Apex Legends PS5 upgrade

Apex Legends’ next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S should not be too far away now. Aside from the fact that Respawn will be gradually rolling out new features each season in 2022, rather than in one hit, very little is known about what exact improvements players will be getting. This includes whether those on the PS5 will be able to use the DualSense controller’s features while playing Apex Legends.

However, in a wide-ranging interview with The Loadout discussing the past, present, and future of Apex Legends, game director Steve Ferreira suggests that such DualSense features will be arriving in the battle royale at some stage.

“Like I’ve mentioned in previous interviews, we plan to continually add new features to our next-gen platforms,” Ferreira says. “While I can’t confirm today when we will see DualSense features come to Apex, I can say that yes, it’s one of the core features that really adds to the feel of the game and is something very core to all Respawn games. Things that enhance the feel of our core gameplay is something we get excited about.”

Speaking on Respawn’s decision to gradually roll out new current-gen features as part of seasonal updates throughout the year, Ferreira describes it simply as “how we [Respawn] like to make games and a natural part of our development process.”

It seems that even with typically concrete features that make up most next-gen upgrades, Respawn still wants to tinker with them once they’re live with the help of the community’s feedback, as it does with other aspects of Apex Legends.

Stay tuned for more insights from Ferreira and senior design director Evan Nikolich throughout this week on The Loadout.
